Facials are a great way to rejuvenate and energize dull skin and maintain a healthy looking glow. Many recipes can be found online. The most important thing to consider is the ingredients. Stick to ingredients that are mild, moisturizing and natural. Fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, strawberries and avocadoes are good. Stay away from skin drying items like peppermint. Finding the perfect ingredients for your skin type may take awhile. Remember to test the facial mixtures first on your hand or inner wrist to make sure they won't irritate your face.

You will want to include these basic elements in your facial:

  • Cleansing
  • Toning
  • Moisturizing

All three are needed to accomplish the desired results. Additional facial steps include steaming, masking and exfoliating, but these are not required. Here are the step-by-step instructions for all the steps.

1. Steam Treatment (optional) - Before using any product on your face, applying gentle steam will open the pores and prepare your face for cleansing. Place a soft towel in a bowl of warm water and let it soak for 2 to 3 minutes. Wring out the towel and place it over your face and neck for 4 to 5 minutes.

2. Cleansing (required) - Cleansing your face will unclog the pores and leave the skin feeling revitalized and fresh. Cleansing will also remove any excess oil that has been left on your face. Make (or purchase) a facial cleanser and smooth it over the face in circular, upwards motions. Rinse with warm water and gently pat dry with a soft towel. See the Cucumber Facial link and the Men's Facials link for recipes.

3. Toning (required) - Toning helps balance the pH of the skin. It gives skin a firm, healthy, clean glow. Apply toner to the face using a soft cotton ball or pad. Dab the face, but do not rub the face as pulling can damage the skin and cause wrinkles. See the recipe to the left.

4. Moisturizing (required) - Moisturizing softens and adds hydration and nutrients to the skin. Moisturizing is very important and disregarding this step can ruin the results of your facial. Apply Raiza Creme to your skin while it's still damp from the toner. Let the moisturizer sink into your skin and don't rinse it off.

These are basic guidelines for at home facials. Check out the links above for a couple of homemade recipes. Following these guidelines will ensure clean, fresh and healthy looking skin. Most important - relax and enjoy your facial!
